Going to waist

15 Oct 2011 Uncategorized

The “fanny pack” gets a bad rap. If worn correctly, usually not on the waist, they’re a dope accessory and utilitarian piece that can stow your phone, keys, wallet, ballistic flashlight, pen, note pad, glasses, prophylactics, cigarettes, and a zippo…like a machismo man purse cuz “murses” are for insecure punks and satchels are for muppets.

(unsolicited)suggestion friday#4:get dressed!

15 Oct 2011 Uncategorized

Looking for the list of recommended books from (unsolicited) suggestion friday #3 and #2?  Here you go: Recommended Christian books: Contemporary and Classics.

Today I thought I’d share with you some of the awesome stuff I’ve run across as I’ve gotten acclimated to the blogging world.

I was super excited to see how many women are sharing their faith online – many of them very articulately and very lovingly.  And these are some fantastically creative women!  So, below you’ll find some links to blogs that I’ve been checking out lately.  (Please note that I haven’t read everything on all of these blogs.  Therefore, this is not a blanket endorsement of the content.)  Also: for more blogs I like, check out my “blogroll” on the sidebar!

One thing I’m looking forward to is a challenge (Frumps to Pumps) that starts Monday at www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com.  See, I usually work at home 1 or 2 days a week.  Long hours to be sure, but in the comfort of our home – which is nice.  On days when I teach or do observations of future teachers, I dress up.  On days when I stay home to grade, work on lesson plans, write……not so much.  Now, I’m very fortunate because the husband works exclusively from home — this means we often get to have lunch together, bounce ideas off each other – it’s a huge blessing, and I’m very grateful for it.  I’ve realized, however, that I tend to “dress down” on these work-at-home days.  Like way down.  Like not just to the ground, but through the ground into some deep cave.

When it’s summer and dressing down means little shorts and tank tops (we don’t have kids, so the dress code is pretty loose around here), I don’t think he minds one bit.  In the winter, though, I tend towards pajama pants and long-sleeved t-shirts or sweatshirts.  (I have told him that if he’d turn up the heat, I’d gladly wear shorts all year.  I don’t think the thermostat is going to change, though….)

So, this challenge to actually get dressed “up,” even if you’re staying home, is perfect for me.  Actually, I started today.  (And by started I mean I put on jeans and a shirt, a little make-up, and let my hair down.)  After the husband saw I got dressed, here’s how the conversation went:

“Are you going somewhere?” the husband asked.

“No,” I answered.

“You just decided to put on your big girl clothes?” he questioned, looking a little confused.  (I call them my big girl clothes; he’s not being condescending here.)

So, yeah, I could probably stand to make this dressing “up” thing more of a habit!  If you’re interested in joining me (and lots of other women), check it out:

Also, if you’re looking for other Christian blogs, Faithful Bloggers (www.faithfulbloggers.com) is a great place to start:

And, finally, Time-Warp Wife (http://time-warp-wife.blogspot.com/) is in the middle of a 31 Days of Love challenge where guest writers challenge us with different ways to show love to our husbands.  Awesome!

What sites or challenges would you recommend?  Tell us (and please leave links!) in the comment section below!

Want to read more?  Check out the start of the (becoming) fully submitted series.  With the final, and somewhat controversial (?), post here: (becoming) fully submitted, part 5.

Have a prayer request?  Check out the latest (prayer) warrior wednesday.

And coming up on Monday: (becoming) a godly wife, part one.  Ever wonder why he won’t <insert thing you’ve asked him to do 1000 times here>?  Check back Monday for a discussion of potential answers – and for advice on how to respond to the situation.

Para-Cord Survival Bracelet “Desert Camo” 9 Inch

Surviving in style requires clothing composed of paracord. Wresting a feeble existence from from a burned out inner city bereft of wireless Internet is difficult enough without improperly adorned forearms. Simply clip a few of these bracelets around your wrists for a post-apocalyptic fashion statement that will turn the heads of even the most jaded zombies. No one will turn you away from their hastily built shelter when the sun goes down and roving bands of opportunists deploy to search for caches of gasoline.

If things get really bad really fast, simply unravel the paracord bracelet to obtain a big long string of paracord, then run away from whatever is bothering you at the time.

Some Old Yet Comfortable Looks

11 Oct 2011 Uncategorized

I have been mia for a while all thanks to the flu. Even though I am still feeling under the weather, I decided to go through some old pictures. Here are a few styles of my own that I personally felt comfortable in. The styles are simple since I am a simplistic person.

This dress was from Mandee. I love the color and the belt.

The beige skirt and the heels are from Victoria’s Secret and the white two piece tops are from JCPenny.

I’m wearing my favorite GAP coat. It is extremely simple and may appear to be a cheap coat, but it’s not cheap. I love my brown, wide pants. Oh, and of course I am using another Coach bag.

Last, but not least I am wearing a purple turtleneck with black pants, black heels all from Mandee along with my favorite leather jacket from Top Gun (https://www.topgunstore.com)

More old and new pictures coming soon. :)

5 best dressed celebrities for the year 2011

29 Sep 2011 dresses

Celebrities have always been considered as an edifice of “Fashion”. They introduce new fashion in the market, experiment with their looks continuously and provide something unique to their fans, and still manage to look beautiful (well, most of them do) in their party dresses.

Choosing the Best Dressed Celebrities 2011

And the same has been happening in this year so far – a lot of celebrities have experimented with their look, while maintaining their beauty and elegance. Where a lot of them failed, some did manage to carry it off. In this article, I am telling you about, who I think are, the best dressed celebrities of 2011.

I have chosen those celebrities, who were able to carry off different styles of dresses with amazing elegance and ease. They not just wore something different, but looked extremely beautiful and elegant in their party dresses.

Top 5 Best Dressed Celebrities 2011

The following are the top 5 best dressed celebrities for the year 2011:

1. Kate Middleton Williams – Strictly Elegant Chick

Kate Middleton Best Dressed Celebrities

Marrying to a local prince (having a strong international presence) can make you a fashion diva instantly, with your every dress becoming a talking point. But Kate Middleton is much more than the hype. Be it a formal dress, a short dresses or casual wear – she looks extremely elegant in each and every dress of her. I haven’t seen her in any dress, which wasn’t looking good on her. This is mostly because of the fact that she, herself, is very beautiful and elegant. Moreover, being a princess now, she deliberately has chosen some beautiful and elegant party dresses to wear.

2. Carla Bruni Sarkozy – Stylishly Elegant

Carla Bruni Sarkozy best dressed celebrities 2011

From the political front, we have one more entry – the stylish and super elegant “Carla Bruni Sarkozy”. She has the power to make any dress look beautiful on her – because she, herself, is extremely beautiful and stylish. And after her marriage, she has taken a deliberate, and very good, decision to go the elegant way. She is choosing the dresses, which are not just elegant, but super stylish. And, even after her pregnancy, she is looking more beautiful and elegant.

3. Emma Stone – Super Stylish

Emma Stone - Best Dressed Celebrity 2011

There are very few actresses in Hollywood who, at such a young age, look so elegant and graceful. She is a perfect mix of  superior elegance, extraordinary beauty and glamour. There is an element of funkiness (which represents her age) and elegance in each of her dresses, which makes her stand above from the rest.

4. Mila Kunis – The Glamour Girl

Mila Kunis - Best dressed celebrities 2011

In Black Swan, she showed that she can act wonderfully. And with all her red carpet appearance after that, she showed how glamorous, beautiful and sexy she can look. She wore a lot of dresses this year – from short party dresses, to elegant gowns – and managed to look stunningly beautiful in them. Mainly because she is ultra glamorous and naturally sexy.

5. Lae Michele – Fresh and Sexy

Lae Michele Best Dressed Celebrity 2011

This 24 year old “Glee” star may look like a surprise entry, but she has a great dressing sense, and looks immensely beautiful in dark colored dresses. She looked supremely beautiful and sexy in all her red carpet appearance, and one could easily spot her in the crowd, thanks to her strikingly style sense. Moreover, she wear a lot of dresses of new, and competent, designers – that makes her look unique, but very beautiful at important events.

The best thing about all the above 5 celebrities, is the fact that they know their limitations and works beautifully in those limitations. That makes them look very beautiful, elegant and, of course, unique. And, that is why, these are the 5 best dressed celebrities for the year 2011.

Fashion week is out of control!

27 Sep 2011 dresses

My question is who wants to wear this? The fashion industry is being creative and thats a good thing but most people do not want to dress like a giant tellie tubby. This years Fashion Week is most defiantly going crazy with funky patterns, colors, and furs. I am wondering if the designers thought twice about making such outrageous outfits. I know the publicity thought these were wild ideas and maybe thats what the designers were wanting the outcome to be was “attention.”

Fashion Week is always one of biggest week for celebrities and designers.  I don’t think anyone was expecting what was brought to the runway! I noticed more of an alien theme  this year. Every year there is a theme like white and black, animal print, pastel colors, excedra. But no one was expecting out of this world! I am not for sure who is going to buy these products to own or have in stores it is not the normal everyday outfit and if you are wanting to make an entrance than this years fashion week clothing would be the way to go!

There are plenty I mean PLENTY more crazy outfits that came out of this years Fashion Week. I am not for these looks and whoever is must be a bold stylist but what these clothes do bring is uniqueness and I feel thats what the designers were looking to achieve! Maybe they are not the hottest/cutest clothes but they did get the public talking and I give them that. Even if the outfits are very bizarre I mean Halloween bizarre they are making a statement, and now that the designers got the attention maybe next year they should choose a more sophisticated look.

Day 23: Swing, Swing, Swing

27 Sep 2011 Uncategorized

For a long, long time I’ve wanted to learn how to swing dance, but I’ve just never gotten the opportunity.  Being that in every other aspect of my life, I was meant for another era, I figured dancing would be the same.  Everything in the Swing era was simply better.  Clothes, dating, dancing, music, patriotism, morals, and hair styles.  Tonight, I went to my first swing dance club meeting and IT WAS INCREDIBLE.  Upon such an occasion, I knew I had to pull the saddle shoes.

The Shoes: Saddle shoes have been on my shopping list forever and it wasn’t until senior year that I finally found them.  Not online, not in a thrift store, but in a “Bass” store of a ritzy shopping center.  Not only were they purchased in this outlet mall, but they were discovered in the children’s section.  Thank goodness for small feet!
